Denver Black-Eyed Susans

 

These flowers are the newest addition to one of our gardens. They are called Denver Black-Eyed Susans. As much as we have traditional black-eyed susans in our yard, these have become the hit of the graden. They grow to about 3 feet, their yellow color is vibrant and they last about a month before they begin to wilt and die. They are heat tolerant and attract butterflies, perfect for that low maintenance garden.

With the number of flowers we planted this year, I'll be crossing my fingers that they come back next year equally as strong (in numbers) and beautiful.

 

Hummingbirds - Clear Winged Moth Hummingbird

We have a number of things that attract hummingbirds to our garden. Between the hummingbird feeder, butterfly bushes, and bee balm, we have our share of small sightings. The clear winged moth butterflies are easy to photograph as they take their time around the bushes.

I'm still try to catch a few shots of the larger hummingbirds but they swoop in and out so fast...I'll need to be moving a shutter speed.

My Shasta Daisies are Back!

 

Every year I spend quite a bit of time photographing daisies. They grow in my backyard and they make for a great subject because of their color and beauty. Whether one or many, the shots seem to be perfect...with no posing required. Much of it is the contrast of the white and yellow against the green, they just seem to pop. So from my backyard to yours, shasta daisy beauty!

Stella D'Oro Daylily - Up Close and Personal

 

We have beautiful daylilies all over our yard. What I love about the Stella D'Oro day lily is that it blooms from late spring through early fall. By pinching back the dead buds, more flowers continue to bloom all through the summer. A perennial lily that gives any landscape a seasonal golden glow!

Blue Hydrangea Beauty

 

We have the most gorgeous blue hydrangea bush in the front of our house. It probably has over 50 blooms, ready to explode with the most incredible blue color. Sometimes their beauty comes before they fully blossom.

 

Spring is here and so are the daffodils!

 

I am so done with winter! After FEET of snow in the northeast this year, I am looking for warmer weather and beautiful spring flowers and growth. This is the first of a number of daffodil varieties that grow in my yard. Enjoy the beginning of spring!

Blue Crocus

 

A true sign of spring is the crocus. These come up every year in my backyard. They are such a beautiful, blue-purple. The color is so vivid it almost looks fake.

After a long, snowy winter, I'm ready for the amazing colors of spring.

A snowy moment...

 

My Andromeda plant seems to be surviving the snow storms which are pounding the Northeast. If you look in the background, you can see the snow falling. It was a little bright yesterday morning as it started to snow, almost as if the sun was trying to peak through. A great moment for a picture.

Icicles

 

After the rain, you will see a rainbow. After the snow, you will see icicles!

A White Hawaiian Orchid

 

Some relatives from Hawaii sent some beautiful Hawaiian flowers for the Christmas holiday. One was small white orchids which are used to make lei. Before they faded, I wanted something that captured their beauty.
