When I get a text from my girlfriend, Di, and it says, "What are you guys up to this weekend?" it means we are going out to dinner. A few week's ago, Di and I had a conversation about going to some different restaurants int the area. We use Open Table quite a bit and it gives you some ideas for restaurant choices in the area. We are fortunate to live 40 minutes from Boston and 40 minutes from Providence, which gives us a wide range of restaurants to choose from.
I had come across Chardonnay's Restaurant in Seekonk a few times but couldn't get timely reservations. When I knew we were going out to dinner I went to Open Table and Chardonnay's was available. Dinner for 4 @ 7 PM - we were all set.
When we arrived, the place was packed, but the tables were moving and within 5 minutes we were seated. The place was warm and had great energy as people were enjoying themselves at their tables as well as the large bar area. It was a little loud, but I think it added to the excitement about the restaurant. People were having fun.
We checked out the menu and decided to stick with some of the traditional dishes. After we ordered our drinks we began with an order of calamari. The calamari was very tasty with butter, garlic and hot peppers. Our waitress, Jessica, came over and read us the evening specials and some of our selections suddenly changed. Jeff ordered the Lobster Cardinale which was lobster, shrimp and scallops in a tomato cream sauce over capellini, Di ordered the Pork Medallions Gratinee, and I ordered the Orange Ginger Salmon, all on the menu. Emil ended up going with the Grilled Pork Chop special. All the dishes were delicious...to the point that there was very little sharing. Everyone was enjoying their meal. Only Di left with a doggie bag.
Once we finished, we decided to get some cappuccino and espresso to enjoy with our dessert. Feeling slightly full, we decided to split (4 spoons, please!) the S'More Ice Cream Pie, complete with flaming marshmallows on the top. Graham cracker crust, coffee ice cream with chocolate chunks with warmed (and slightly charred) marshmallows...it was the perfect dessert for a perfect evening. And, I just have to give another plug to our waitress, Jessica...she was amazing! Very attentive and extremely personable.
Warm, friendly atmosphere, really nice food selection, reasonably priced and the staff is amazing. Check out Chardonnay's, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
