Last week, our good friends, Mitch and Sue called to see if Jeff and I wanted to join them to grab a drink at a little place called House of Brews. It is located in Stoughton, MA two towns from where we live, and was supposed to be a new place that had a great selection of micro brewed beers. I looked it up online and couldn't find much information except that it sold coffee and beer.
As we were heading there, we were laughing trying to imagine what this place was like...and what a surprise it was. From the outside, it looked like a little coffee shop, but inside it was AMAZING! It has a bar on the left that held about 20 stools. It had high top tables, comfortable chairs, living room set-ups and a beautiful fireplace. The place was warm and cozy, all the way down to the curtains made of burlap. I kept saying that I felt like I was in a cozy chalet at the top of a mountain.
We ended up sitting at the window seats, watching all the conversation around us. We were waited on by a smiling waitress named Mary, she gave us our menus and told us about the drink specials. She also asked if we would be staying for a while because they had entertainment by a singer named AJ Edwards. We took our time and order a few drinks...I'm not a big beer fan so I decided to go with a Chocolate Mint Martini (which was DELICIOUS), the rest chose from their selection of beers. The menu was small as they serve more appetizers than meals. We ordered a bit of everything off the list. We had both sets of Hamburger Sliders, Pumpkin Mac and Cheese, Onion and Gorgonzola Flatbread and Sweet Potato Cuts. All the dishes were tasty and we shared what was ordered. I will say, the sweet potato cuts were the best I've ever had. They were crispy and soft, not oily or soggy. We ended the night with a big wedge of Cheese Cake and 4 forks.
We enjoyed the drinks and listened to AJ, play a few sets. From Neil Young and U2 to a mix of original songs, AJ was incredible. I'm such a music fan and love when an artist plays a broad genre of songs that entertain everyone in the audience.
We also got to meet the owners, Leo and Sandy Fay. They stopped by the table, asked us how everything was and talked a bit about opening the new place. It had been trying with some of the permitting but they finally opened in July of 2013. They couldn't have been any nicer...which probably has a lot to do with our waitress, Mary. Mary is their daughter and she truly was the BEST. She was attentive and she smiled from one end of the House of Brews to the other.
Side note - they aren't just open at night. They serve coffee and lite fare all day long. Sandy and Leo were saying that people like stopping by from Town Hall and it is becoming a gathering place for moms and business people who look for a place to have a casual meeting with coffee. They also have WiFi.
I can't wait to go back. Sue and I are going to have coffee there some morning, kick back and just enjoy the atmosphere. I checked AJ's schedule and he will be back at the House of Brews on Saturday, March 29th. I guess you know where we will be that night...stop by House of Brews and meet the staff, the brews and the entertainment. You won't be disappointed.
